Martial Arts
On the 23rd of October we started our Martial Arts workshop.
On the first day, we started out in the halla nua with a talk from our Martial Arts instructor Darragh. Darragh showed us videos of people getting attacked and how to avoid these situations, by analyzing what is going on before something bad could happen to you, he told us what we should do in case a situation escalated and how to defuse the situation without getting hurt.
The second half of our day continued in the sports hall, when we arrived Darragh began to show us many different ways to defend ourselves. We learned how to distract someone before we fought our attacker. We were not only taught how to fight our attackers, but also how to safely shield ourselves against punches, kicks, knives, guns and people pulling our hair.
We ended our first day with learning how to on top of someone if they are attacking you while you are on the floor.

On the second day we started with a recap of everything that we learned the day before, Darragh said he was presently surprised by how much we had remembered. We proceeded to learn more and more defense mechanisms throughout the day.
At the end of the day we were all put into groups to test how much we had learned that day and to see if our fitness was good enough to last the length of a proper fight. The test was tiring and very difficult but it was good to see how tired you could feel while having to defend yourself.
Darragh will be coming back for one more day later on in the year, and I am unbelievably excited to learn more Martial Arts. I really enjoyed this experience and can't wait to do it again.
