About YSI
Our YSI (young social innovators) team this year have decided that since homelessness is a massive problem in Ireland, it would be our topic that we wanted to tackle. Homelessness is a huge problem that is right in front of us, that we can help with. We are all excited to get the opportunity to help with something that's so close to home.
Peter Mac Ferry Trust
On Wednesday the 15th of November we got the privilege of receiving a talk from Frances Doherty from the Peter Mc Ferry trust. Frances is the head of communications
Our goals for YSI are the same of the Peter Mc Ferrys trust, to raise awareness about homelessness. Frances explained to us everything they are doing to help end homelessness, he sadly informed us that homelessness has spiked in numbers this year, Frances also told us that his goal for the trust was to one day not need it at all, as that would mean there was no homeless people in Ireland.
Frances told us about the app and the website which are both very informative. He told us that one of the best ways we can help is by spreading awareness about the homelessness crisis, which is what our YSI team plans to do and more.

YSI Speak Out
On the 20th of March, our YSI team went to Dun Laoighre to compete in the Young Social Innovators Speak Out. We thought we would compete in the competition because we are really very passionate about our topic and wanted to make people aware of it and let them know what we've done to help. Homelessness was our focused topic for YSI this year. Our aim was to create and act a scene that happens everyday right outside our doorstep and we hoped that it meant as much to the judges and audience as it does to us. Some of the girls in YSI, Molly, Ella, Rebecca, Suki, Rachel, Charlotte and myself helped plan a scene which would be clear for an audience to understand what our YSI group have done this year to make a difference, I then wrote the script for our little sketch while the rest of the group painted posters and printed off pictures of Life as a homeless person, so that we really got our message across. Everyone really came together, getting their costumes and learning their lines, and with the help of our two teachers , our sketch went off without a hitch. It was lovely to see what other schools did for their YSI and that everyone was just as passionate about their projects , it was a great day out and I'm really glad I was apart of it.
