Health and Safety
At the beginning of fourth year one of our first modules was Health and safety taught by Mr. O'Connor , every week he would ask us true or false questions regarding hazards in a workplace or in a school. We would write down on sheets , the definition of a hazard followed by the true or false questions, after they were corrected Mr. O'Connor would collect the sheets which we would later present as our project. We also learnt how to safely pick up heavy objects without injuring yourself or anyone else, we did this by leaning how to pick up a bag of clay. This is a module I learnt a lot from and really enjoyed.
Public Speaking
A module that I really enjoyed this year was public speaking. At the beginning of the module Mr. Wall would show us videos of debates or speeches and would ask us what we liked or disliked about them, he would also ask us what techniques we recognized which really helped us remember what we needed to put into our speeches throughout the module. As time passed we began to think of ideas for our own speeches and once Mr. Wall approved of our speech titles, we began to write our speech. The speech had to be over three minutes long and you had to include a PowerPoint presentation supporting your speech, with a minimum of ten slides in it. My speech was about 'Technology and how it is affecting young people in Ireland today'. In this module I learned how to be more confident when speaking in front of a group of people and I learned I need to slow down when I speak. Public speaking was a great experience and I'm glad I got to do it.
Pottery
Pottery was a module that I didn't enjoy as much as the others, I feel as though this is because I did pottery all of last year for the junior cert and it wasn't something new to me. Mr.oconner was the teacher for pottery, we made pinch pots and our names out of clay, we were then able to paint and then fire our pieces which made them look glazed. Even though I didn't enjoy this module as much as others I really liked being able to make things from scratch and making things that were different to everyone else's.
Minfulness
For our second round of modules, we did mindfulness. We leaenr about meditation , personal reflection, what mindfulness is, benefits of mindfulness, finger breathing, and a lot more. I loved learning different techniques of meditation and how to deal with stress. We learnt a lot about ourselves in this module and I really enjoyed it.
Nutrition
I really loved the nutrition module this year, I wasn't expecting to learn as much as I did, Ms Murray really made each class relatable to us and helped us to understand how to better our nutrition and lifestyle
