TY musical, Legally Blonde
On the 22nd of October the whole year anxiously gathered in ‘The Splash’ to hear what our TY musical would be. Mrs Olohan finally announced that our musical was ‘Legally Blonde’. Many of us had never seen the musical before so we were really excited to go home and watch it.
Our auditions began in the run up to Christmas, we did auditions for dancing, singing, and acting. Our first audition was for dancing which is where we got to meet our incredible director and choreographer, Aisling. After learning the first dance we all knew that the show would be hard work , but yet we couldn’t wait for Aisling to teach us more. A week or so later we did both singing and acting auditions for Mrs. Olohan and Aisling, the girls got to sing and act by themselves and so did the boys.
Finally the callbacks were announced and we auditioned together , singing, dancing and acting. After a final round of auditions we eagerly waited to hear who got what parts later on that day. The parts were cast, we got our scripts, and we couldn’t wait to start rehearsals.
Over the Christmas break we all busied ourselves learning lines, we returned to school ready to begin our musical. We all learned quickly that being apart of the musical was a serious commitment, but we didn’t mind, the rehearsals let people come out of their shells and we all loved being together and learning how we can better our production and individual performances. For such a short amount of time the musical came together so quickly, along with learning dances and songs Matthew Bardon, Suki Farrar and Claire Fisher all stepped up to organise the ticket designs, extra props for the stage and told us what little bits and bobs we would need to get for our own costumes, with the help of Aisling and Mrs. Olohan of course. The school organised the most amazing costumes for us and although we hadn’t yet seen what our stage set was going to look like we knew it would be amazing.
After weeks of practicing and perfecting it was finally time for our first show for the sixth classers, we were all nervous but knew the audience would be patient as it was our first performance, needless to say they loved it and we were all extremely proud of ourselves. Our next performance was for the 5th, 2nd and 1st years, and after seeing their reaction to the show we were more than ready for our nightly performances. We sang and danced our way through the next three shows.
The best part of the experience was having an audience and being able to see all of our hard work pay off. Each performance outshone the last and by the final night it was absolutely perfect.
The musical is something everyone looks forward to , and it exceeded all of our expectations, we had the best time and made memories that will stay with us forever.

Sean Gillian Legally Blonde Auditions
This year in school we loved doing our TY musical ‘Legally Blonde’, and when it ended we all missed it. I got the honour of playing the role of Elle Woods and knew I would love the opportunity to play her again.
About a week after the show had ended my friend sent me a photo from the Sean Gilligan Performing Arts page, they were holding open auditions aged 15+ for all roles. When I first saw it I didn’t think anything of it but when I realised how much I loved the musical I knew I had to audition.
I had two days of auditions , one for singing and acting and the other for dancing. I knew there would be hundreds of girls going for the same role as me, with probably more experience, but I was just going to try my best and see what I could learn from the experience myself. I was pleased with how both of my auditions went, and was just happy that I had done them.
I was overjoyed when we got an email saying that I had gotten all singing, dancing and acting call backs. Sadly I couldn’t make the dancing callback as I was away, but I was really excited to perform for Sean Gilligan again. At the callback I was asked to sing ’So Much Better’, one of my favourite songs from the musical and I also had to act out a scene from the second act which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was so interesting to see how the audition process went as I had never done anything like this outside of school before.
A few days later we got an email saying that I sadly didn’t get the part that I wanted, but they wanted to know if I would be apart of the singing ensemble. I was just happy to have been considered in the first place and loved this new experience
