The Ladies Luncheon, NCH Tallaght
On the 29th and 30th of November Sarah, Ella and I helped at the annual National Children’s Hospital Ladies Guild Luncheon. This is hosted for 500 women all in aid for new equipment in the Children’s Hospital. It was hosted at the intercontinental hotel in Ballsbridge, Dublin. Alison Stanley is the Chairperson of the Ladies Guild and is on the board of Directors in the hospital and for the past 16 years she has been running these events
On Wednesday the 29th of November, Sarah Ella and I all went to the hotel and began working. The rooms were filled with all the chocolate, prizes, hampers and props. We also got to meet 10 other transition year students, they were all from different schools and there were other members of the committee there as well .
The first task was to fill all the 500 goodie bags for each person. When we arrived the other students had already started this before we got there but we still got to help them out. We then set up the prize tables in the pre-function area. These were all raffle prizes including boxes of chocolates, books, jelly bean prizes, wine and nail products. At the end of the day Alison gathered all the TY’s and gave us all a briefing of what our jobs were for the next day, what to wear and how the order of the day would run . Everyone then went home apart from Ella, Sarah and I it had already been a really long day but we weren’t done yet. We had great fun mixing with the other TY’s and were excited for Thursday to come.
When everyone had left, the 2 girls and I started putting all the goodie bags on each setting at the tables. We also put out sparkles and diamonds on all the tables. We then got rid of all the rubbish from the Ballroom, Pre-function area and the board room. We then all took a small coffee break in the board room. After that we started a system where we had to place a random 5 winner envelopes for each table. This took a long while to put all the winner slips into the envelopes and to make sure they were all the right ones for the right table. This was done carefully so that no one would be able to come out to the prize area and say that they have won a prize unless they didn’t had a slip.
It was then about 9pm and we ordered room service down to the ball room and got dinner. The three of us were exhausted from the long day and were happy to then leave the hotel an hour later.
We had a good sleep and were ready for Thursday morning. We got dressed into our dresses and headed to the hotel. We soon again met everyone, in their nice clothes and Alison gave us a final briefing for the day. We were all ready and were assigned to our first jobs.
Guests started arriving at 1 o’clock in the afternoon Ella and I had the job of standing at the prize tables in the pre-function area and explaining to the ladies how they could win the prizes. The boys were selling raffle tickets. Everything was going well and the ladies headed into the ballroom for their lunch. It was phenomenal. Speeches were made and songs were sang, and everyone was really enjoying themselves.
Our jobs then continued. We had to go to each of our assigned table to give the winner prizes. This was a long process and was quite confusing at times. Finally the auction began, I got the privilege of wearing one of the beautiful dresses for the auction. Everyone else had to act as spotters around the room looking to see who wanted to place a bid.
The lunch was finally coming to an end and the ladies began leaving at around 5 o’clock. It was a long day. When everyone had left Alison thanked all the helpers and let us leave.
The Ladies Lunch was a huge success and raised loads of money for the Children’s Hospital in Tallaght. Alison did a fantastic job and it was inspiring to watch her pull it all off.
